Average weekly earnings of non-farm payroll employees fell in Alberta in December but remained the highest in the country, according to Statistics Canada.
The federal agency reported Thursday that average weekly earnings in the province were $1,000.85, down 1.3 per cent from November but also 5.4 per cent higher than they were in December 2009.

Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce reported first quarter earnings of $799-million, or $1.92 a share, up from $652-million, or $1.58 a share in the previous year amid rising performance from the retail banking operation.
The country's fifth biggest bank and the first to report on the three months ended Jan. 31 also said it expects to meet new capital requirements laid out by the Basel Committee for Banking Supervision ahead of schedule.

CALGARY - A new survey released Tuesday shows optimism among Albertans about the national economy is the highest in the country.

Canada's labour market kicked off 2011 in high gear with 69,200 new jobs created in January, outpacing market forecasts for a 15,000 increase. Edmonton, February 2, 2011: According to the REALTORS® Association of Edmonton the average price of housing increased slightly in January as compared to the previous month. The all-residential average price rose three quarters of a percent to $310,766; up from $308,497 in December. Single family homes rose a quarter of a percent while condo prices dropped just over one percent during the month.

The Monster Milers is a group of runners who time-share dogs at PAWS, an animal adoption center in Old City. A runner can check out a dog to join him on a jog through the city.
