Alexander Mackenzie, who was searching for an overland route to the Pacific, reached the western sea at Dean Channel, on the west coast of British Columbia, on July 22, 1793. Mackenzie mixed up some vermilion in melted grease and on a large rock wrote "Alexander Mackenzie, from Canada, by land, the twenty-second of July, one thousand seven hundred and ninety-three". The rock has been located and the words reinscribed on it. Ironically, although Mackenzie gained personal recognition as the first ...

World's Greatest Cities before They Were Cities
Between 1870 and 1915, New York's population tripled ? surging from 1.5 million to 5 million residents. In this 1900 photo, Italian immigrants crowd the Lower East Side's Mulberry Street.

In the mean time, I am inspired by the Freezeway, the first 400 metres of which opened a couple weeks ago, which plans on 3.5 km of multi-use ...

Welcome to Canada - the Canada of 1900. You'll find that it's very different from the country you live in now.
For one thing, it's not really an independent country. In foreign policy and some aspects of domestic policy, Britain can still call the shots. Canada's high Court isn't the Supreme Court of Canada - it's the British Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. The Constitution is sitting in London, England, not Ottawa, and it can't be amended without British consent.
