Average weekly earnings of non-farm payroll employees fell in Alberta in December but remained the highest in the country, according to Statistics Canada.
The federal agency reported Thursday that average weekly earnings in the province were $1,000.85, down 1.3 per cent from November but also 5.4 per cent higher than they were in December 2009.

Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce reported first quarter earnings of $799-million, or $1.92 a share, up from $652-million, or $1.58 a share in the previous year amid rising performance from the retail banking operation.

VANCOUVER - Canadians are beginning to take the hint that it is time to start putting away their credit cards, according to new data from CIBC Economics.
Growth in household credit fell to 0.3 per cent in the third quarter of 2010, down from about 1.5 per cent in the second quarter and its slowest pace in more than nine years. The increase in October alone, adjusted for inflation, was also the softest reading in 15 years.
